More and more we are understanding that just focusing on behaviors and access to health care, alone, is not enough. More attention needs to be paid to the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age. Thus, BPEEtalks is a TEDtalk styled event that focuses on Black SGL, Trans, and Queer people's self-efficacy, wellness, and well-being. BPEEtalks will consist of Black SGL, Trans, and Queer people and their allies - lay people, performers, and mental health and healthcare experts, providers, and advocates, sharing their ideas, insight, and information-resources that speak to the experiences and needs of Black SGL, Trans, and Queer persons living in New Orleans, all of Louisiana, and throughout the South. BPEEtalks will take place Saturday, November 25th, 2017 at the New Orleans Jazz Market - 1436 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, New Orleans, LA. BPEEtalks' areas of focus are Trauma, Relationships, Wellness & Well-being, and Self-Love. The BPEEtalks will also feature Big Freedia, Dr. Jonathan Mathias Lassiter, and BACH's CROPs 2017 BPEE FOUNDATION HONOREES. The BPEE FOUNDATION HONOREES are being recognized because their efforts have directly or indirectly laid and/or are laying a FOUNDATION that promotes and/or supports self-efficacy, wellness, and well-being among Louisiana’s Black same-gender loving (SGL; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual), Trans, and Queer persons.
